6 Simple Ways To Know If You're A Witch
Witch is a Label: Claiming yourself as a worker and transmitter of energy. Living with the powers and tides of the Earth, the Moon and the Sun.
Compare the art of witchcraft or magick to the art of painting or playing a musical instrument. It's fair to say that most people can learn to play the piano, paint a lake in watercolor, etc., But there are of course those who are simply born with more musical talent or artistic ability than others.
Same goes for magick and witchcraft. These skills can always be taught, but some are born with more natural ability than others.
Many people who are naturally drawn to this path have more of a knack for energy work and magickal abilities. If you found your path to this page, more than likely you have this special skill.
This website and post is not intended to convince you to practice witchcraft. This path is not for everyone and it is often a path of the hermit. Witchcraft is not defined by black clothing, occult jewelry or the macabre. Witchcraft is an intellectual pursuit - requiring time, effort and dedication.
If you are looking for specific traits of Witches (regardless of gender) to figure out if you are a Witch, we have put together a brief list to help you on your journey into witchcraft.
1. Fascination With Witchcraft and Magick Since Childhood.
While the other children played with Barbies, you were more drawn to fairies, wizards and stories about lands of enchantment. Nature and animals gave you more joy and solace than TV or video games. Halloween was undoubtedly your favorite holiday.
Many witches say they used to try to convince their friends and siblings to "play witches" with them.
Or would try to find gnomes or elves in the backyard garden - occasionally with great success!
From a young age many witches are naturally drawn to the spiritual and paranormal - frequently having encounters with ghosts, ancestral spirits and entities from other realms.
This inner-knowing and calling to witchcraft is always a sure sign of a true born witch.
2. Feeling like an outsider most of your life.
Feeling like you were born into the wrong family, the wrong town or even the wrong time period?
Do you have a hard time connecting with your peers?
Do you have a hard time connecting with even those you consider your friends?
Did you suffer from depression during your adolescence, escaping into nature and/or solitude to ease the soul?
3. Finding Peace and Solace in Nature and Animals.
A deep love and understanding of nature is the main calling of the Witch. Spending time in nature to listen to the whispers of the Earth is healing and peaceful to witches.
After a bad day, a heartbreak or any tension, running away to a park or the woods just to the feel the grass beneath your feet was and is your first course of action.
4. Feeling of Discomfort When Being around Too Many People.
Witches are Sensitives. Unless we are consciously prepared to block peoples energy, we automatically pick up the vibration of our surroundings. Sadly, many people in this world carry negativity, hatred and anxiety.
After spending time with groups of people (such as in concerts, shopping malls or at clubs) do you feel physically ill? Do you feel that it takes time to energetically wash away the feeling? After having to be in social situations for any length of time do you feel like you need to be alone for several days? Is your dream to live in a secluded, woodsy area alone or with your close family?
5. Enjoying and craving Solitude.
Witches are deep, thoughtful, emotional and peaceful. We are in tune with the Earth, the Moon, the Sun and ourselves. Solitude brings us clarity and allows us to align our lives with nature.
Whether it's living in solitude or simply spending quiet time reading, painting, meditating, we find peace in silence and stillness.
6. Ancestral Linkage to Magickal Mothers/Grandmothers, Witches, Druids or Wise Women
I will make this bold, very controversial statement:
WITCHCRAFT IS HEREDITARY
Does this mean you cannot become a witch unless your ancestors are witches? Absolutely not!
I am simply saying that if you are interested in witchcraft, more than likely, a woman in your ancestral background was a practitioner in one form or another. Whether she accepted the 'Witch' label or not is irrelevant.
Perhaps your grandmother had a special, whimsical knack in the garden? Maybe she secretly studied the stars and astrology? If she was religious, perhaps her prayers were partially mental spells.
If you have had a lifelong interest in witchcraft, I highly recommend pondering your heritage with an open mind. The deck of playing cards your Aunt Francis always had on her coffee table may very well have been used for fortune telling...
